The striking, concave hood reduces the car's perceived mass without cramping the engine compartment.  the side treatment avoids the all too common wedge look with an almost horizontal beltline riding above softly shouldered fenders and door panels. Mirrored z-seams where the end corners of the bumpers meet the quarter panels add interest, while blacked-out window surrounds play down the tall side glass. The flat-flanged rims on the up-level 17-inch wheels suggest a high-end european import more than an affordable asian nameplate.  the taillight outlines repeat the headlight shapes and bookend a broad, trapezoidal license plate inset; the backup light portion of the lens is smaller but output is the same. Again, there's a hint of other cars' architecture, most notably segment heavyweights like the camry, accord, and malibu. Sporty, california hot rod-idiom dual exhausts mark the v6-equipped versions.  the hyundai sonata continues to refine its signature design cues, the sculptors looking in the right places without offending conservatism. interiorthe 2009 sonata interior is a significant step forward from the previous model, although housed in the same cabin space. It is judged a large car by epa size standards and is the largest among midsize sedans in terms of interior volume.  the cabin feels more integrated, with new flowing lines for 2009. A tapered center stack rolls gently off the dash into the center console, replacing the blocky look of the previous dash. The overall look is competitive with most in the class and reminds us of some nissan and acura interiors. Materials seem to have more depth, as even the hard plastic trim common on lower door and console panels looks better.  lighter materials frame the vents and center stack. The center stack houses the clock, audio and navigation systems, and climate controls. There's also a sizable bin that holds 10 cd jewel cases above the ashtray ahead of the shifter. Splashes of trim grow from the console outward mid-height on the dash and are mirrored on the doors; on cars with woodgrain trim the shifter gets a slice of the same material. The largest is the speedometer, to its left is the tachometer, to its right conjoined water temperature and fuel gauges. In the lower dash to the left of the steering column is a bank of five switch plugs, only two of which are employed in the u. Version; one is an on/off for the esc (electronic stability control), the other the dash-light rheostat. Beyond that is a flip-down storage bin. The ignition key slides into a slot placed where it should be, in the dash to the right of the steering column instead of on the steering column itself, easier and more elegant when starting or shutting off the car.  for 2009, the limited model is available with a voice-recognition navigation system. Redundant controls for the audio are to the lower left-side of the hub. On the other side of the hub are the standard cruise controls, with a helpful cancel function. All stalk functions are straightforward and require no adaptation.  outward visibility is good, although some will find the wide c-pillars constrict quick, over-the-shoulder traffic checks for lane changing. Rear side windows roll all the way down, thanks to small, fixed, rear quarter windows that move the windows' rear tracks forward in the door, ahead of the wheel well. There's a roof-mounted, hinged assist handle inside every door.  seats are comfortable, with adequate bolstering fo. With this new transmission, the v6 gets an epa-estimated 31 mpg highway.  a new, optional navigation system is the best we've ever seen, with a large, 8. 4-inch screen that's easily understood at a glance and easy to operate. We highly recommend opting for it. Also new for 2012 are the usual assortment of color and wheel design upgrades, and not one but new sound system upgrades.  the chrysler 300 has all the heritage traits of an american luxury sedan such as room, comfort, endless features and amenities, power and a degree of presence, yet is also has good road manners, stops and changes directions as well as it goes. It also has a distinctive look ever harder to find in this era of economy-driven aerodynamics, pedestrian impact standards and corporate styling.  all-wheel drive is available. The ride height on 2012 chrysler 300 awd models is slightly lower than on 2011 models.  the chrysler 300 comes in nearly any combination of v6 or v8 engine, 5- or 8-speed automatic, and rear- or all-wheel drive.  the 2012 chrysler 300 srt8 model comes packed with a 470-hp 6. 4-liter v8 (only a corvette zo6's is larger), brembo brakes, forged alloy wheels, and bilstein adaptive dampers similar to those maserati uses. Srt8 carries a $1,000 federal gas guzzler tax.  safety equipment on the chrysler 300 includes front, front side, driver knee, and side curtain air bags, electronic stability control with brake assist, and tire pressure monitoring system. The optional safetytec package groups several safety features together. Optional all-wheel drive improves stability in slippery conditions. walkaroundthe front of the chrysler 300 looks like a large sedan version of the chrysler 200 midsize sedan and town & country minivan, with many of the same visual cues in the grille, headlamps, air intakes and front bumper. It's much sleeker and more rounded at the nose, but carries a much lower aerodynamic drag coefficient because of the rounded elements and the very laid-back windshield angle. Neither the windshield nor the rear window carries any bright moldings at all, unusual for a luxury car, but it works on the 300.  on the s and srt versions a gloss-black grille and headlight housings framed against monochrome bodywork; it's hard to imagine understated and menacing applied to the same car but that's how it looks. Add in big dark wheels and the s and srt versions deliver the aggressiveness of an amg e-class or cadillac cts-v with more elegant machinery like a bentley gt. We have mixed feelings about the styling, especially that of the 300 srt8. It looks like an upscale hot rod, but we're not sure it quite pulls it off. The styling seems to work best on the standard models.  the profile of the chrysler 300 shows pronounced wheel lips front and rear, and they are connected by a sharp body line that starts at the trailing edge of the front wheel well and rises continuously to finish at the side of the tail lamps. That line, coupled with the larger side windows, narrower pillars, and another sculpted line at the bottom of the doors, does wonders to slim down and muscle up the look of the 300.  at the rear, there's a chrome bar running across the bottom edge of the decklid between the new vertical led taillamps and a tall, flat rear bumper between the exhaust outlets that widens the look of the car at the rear. The execution of the led daytime running lights at the front and the led rear lamps is excellent. The s and srt have deeper panels and a lip spoiler for stability. One of the more pleasant surprises in the chrysler 300 is the amount of light entering the car.  the interior environment is classy without being fussy, and the led lighting and instrumentation are spot-on. Upholstery can be cloth, leather, or suede and leather on srt8 and trim is faux wood, real wood, carbon-fiber or piano black lacquer style; interior adornment is generally matte-finish chrome so annoying reflections are minimal.  the instrument panel contains a bright gauge package, with crisp graphics and ice-blue accent lighting that is brilliantly legible day or night.  the center stack is dominated by a large (8. 4-inch) touch-screen control system, with audio and climate functions. Optional is a brilliantly colorful, large-icon garmin navigation system. This system, because of its size, graphics, and capabilities, may be the best all-around nav system currently available, easy to read, easy to use, and often readable from the back seat. We highly recommend it. Turn onto beaver brook road and in big type at the top of the screen it says, 'driving on beaver brook road.' we love it.  the 300's new fo. Seller's comments and description: this 1948 jeepster had a complete ground up restoration and modification ending earlier this year. I have over 200 pictures of the restoration which can be seen upon inspection of the vehicle. There is absolutely no rust anywhere on this vehicle. There were two small areas in the floorboard and i sectioned and tig welded the correct gauge sheet metal to replace these. No pop rivets or lapped seams.

The premium harman-kardon stereo system includes satellite radio on 2011 subaru legacy models.  all-wheel drive makes the legacy an excellent choice for anyone who has to contend with weather. The body has pronounced fender flares and a grille with a bold chrome trademark wing. The 2. 5 gt limited trim level features a hood scoop that is both functional and adds to the sporty appearance.  we found the subaru legacy wonderfully comfortable, with high-quality interior trim. We particularly liked the perforated leather on the limited models. These aren't luxury cars, but they are premium cars in terms of the quality of materials and the engineering that goes into them.  we found the base subaru legacy 2. 5i effortless to drive. The transmission works automatically, with nothing to do but put it in drive and go; the optional cvt gets good fuel economy. Standard equipment includes air conditioning, 60/40 split rear seat with armrest, steering wheel with audio and cruise control buttons, stereo with cd player and input jacks, remote entry, and power windows, locks and mirrors. Standard features include a hood scoop fog lights, a sunroof, the all-weather package, satellite radio and unique interior trim.  safety equipment on all 2011 subaru legacy models includes front and front side airbags with side curtain airbags, abs with brake assist, vehicle dynamics control with traction control, and tire pressure monitor. walkaroundthe subaru legacy profile is sleek and the roofline is coupe-like. In front, subaru's badge of stars is ringed by a chrome grille. Character lines arc from the grille and form power bulges on the hood and taper upward to the a-pillar.  aggressive wheel arches and edged flares are enhanced by handsome alloy wheels.  there's a short rear deck with squared-off rear valances (smooth and not boxy), part of the standard aero package, giving an impression of size. Along with the 18-inch wheels with wide-profile tires and twin-tip exhaust, it's clear that the gt means business.  the legacy's rigid chassis uses a fully reinforced cage of high-strength steel. Fluid engine mounts help reduce noise. interiorwe found the front bucket seats wonderfully comfortable. Gas strut supports, no intrusion into trunk space: quality detail, for such an affordable midsize car. The rear doors allow for easy entry and exit.  interior materials are high quality all around. The controls on the center stack are all well done. The three-spoke steering wheel isn't as handsome as the rest of the interior, although the optional leather wrap is nice. The ambient lighting for the console is pleasant. Visibility in all directions is good. driving impressionwe tested both transmissions in the base subaru legacy 2. 5i. We like the legacy 2. 5i with the optional continuously variable transmission (cvt). This transmission makes driving effortless and gets 4 more miles per gallon than the 6-speed manual gearbox. The cvt comes with paddle shifters on the steering wheel allowing the driver to shift into different ratios. Called lineartronic, and driven by a chain (actually more of a metal belt) for durability, this compact cvt is subaru's first cvt in recent years, but the company was an early leader in the technology, making cvts some 20 years ago.  all three models have subaru's symmetrical all-wheel drive, but they are different systems. The 265-hp turbocharged engine, with its large turbocharger that sits lowe and near to the exhaust, is capable of pulling 258 pound-feet of torque, available from 2000 to 5000 rpm. The 2011 subaru legacy 2. 5gt pulls off a 0-to-60 acceleration time of 5. 9 seconds, much better than the 3. 6r's pokey 7. 1 seconds.  the chassis features a front subframe with a cradle that allows the engine to sit relatively low. But as we mentioned before, it's not going beat the competition in a drag race. summaryin engineering terms, the subaru legacy comes out ahead of the its chief competitors, including camry, accord, mazda6, altima, and passat. The legacy 2. 5gt is an all-out sports sedan, and the legacy 3. 6r is a midsize luxury car. Retro looks, fun to drive, versatile and efficient. introductionthe chevrolet hhr is a car-based retro-wagon that celebrates its chevy heritage with styling inspired by the iconic 1949 suburban. Hhr stands for heritage high roof, a reference to the early high-roofed suburbans and panel wagons that inspired its design.  based on the same platform as the chevrolet cobalt, the hhr was first launched as a 2006 model. The hhr is similar in concept to the chrysler pt cruiser.  we found the chevy hhr fun to drive. It isn't a sports car, but it's nimble and we were pleased with its acceleration. The hhr feels more responsive than its horsepower, torque, and transmission ratio numbers suggest. Plus, it gets decent fuel economy.  the hhr panel van features smooth, windowless side panels and side cargo doors with no handles. The cargo doors open via an instrument panel button. While it's plainer inside and provides seating for only two, the panel best exemplifies the early suburban heritage.  the hhr ss is the most fun to drive of the hhr models, launching quickly off the line and offering sharp handling. Options for the ls include remote start, the automatic transmission 1,000), running boards, a spoiler, and a variety of other factory and dealer-installed features and accessories.  the hhr lt 19,720) adds remote start as standard (but only with the automatic transmission), an eight-way power driver's seat, driver's lumbar support, and the availability of many more optional extras, including a bright chrome appearance package.  the hhr 2lt adds the lt equipment group 1,700), which includes the 2. 4-liter engine, 17-inch chrome alloy wheels, fog lamps, running boards, fe3 sport suspension, bluetooth connectivity, leather-wrapped steering wheel, auto-dimming mirror, and a pioneer audio system with seven speakers and 260 watts.  the hhr ss 26,255) adds the turbocharged engine, performance handling suspension, 18-inch polished alloy wheels, ss embroidered seats, a rear spoiler, and other items. Optional on the ss is the performance package 895).  the hhr panel comes in ls 19,030) and lt 20,030) versions. Options and prices for the panel are the same as for the equivalent levels of the non-panel versions.  one interesting option for the ls and lt utility versions are solid rear quarter panels 195), which close in the rear sides and give a look somewhat between the utility and the panel models.  safety features include front airbags, front and rear side-curtain airbags, anti-lock brakes, stabilitrak electronic stability control with traction control, and tire-pressure monitoring. walkaroundwe like the retrospective styling of the chevy hhr, though the whole retro craze is getting long in the tooth. The closest comparison is the chrysler pt cruiser, another retro-styled utility vehicle with good fuel efficiency.  the rounded nose of the hhr is not unlike chevy's ssr, which also reflects the brand's truck heritage. The hhr's fenders are well defined, with flat side wheel-well openings contrasting favorably with the vehicle's many curved, contemporary sculpted surfaces. Front and rear bumpers and fog lamps are integrated into seamless fascia, with nostalgic integrated running boards. The flush glass all around, including the windshield, is a nice touch, as are the headlights surrounded by body panels in old school fashion. The taillamp treatment consists of two round vertically stacked lenses on each side. The large, prominent grille is chrome, (except on the ss model), and appears much like that of the 1949 suburban.  front and rear bumpers are molded from composite material, integrated as part of their respective fascia. It provides lots of room and functionality without being boxy. When viewed from a distance, the hhr looks larger than it really is. Examined closely, it's compact. The cargo doors open wide, enabling cargo access from both sides of the vehicle, as well as from the rear liftgate. The cargo doors are smooth and don't have external handles; they are opened via a dashboard release button or the remote keyless entry fob. The large, continuous area created by the windowless cargo doors and rear panels is ideal for business logos, advertising or personalization. Side visibility is obviously limited due to the solid sides without windows; one must rely primarily on mirrors for backing maneuvers. The smooth, windowless sides on the panel give it a cleaner, retro, more hot rod look than the standard models. The lack of windows adds security for contents inside.  the hhr ss sits lower than its stable mates, but sports extended front and rear fascias that give it the appearance of riding much lower. The front fascia features an air-dam design with integrated fog lights, and the grille comes with mesh-style upper and lower grille inserts. The new rear fascia provides a cutout for a single bright exhaust tip. Rocker moldings somewhat resemble accentuated running boards. Out back, a rear spoiler is mounted above the rear glass. Body-color door handles, mirror caps and the rear license plate surround, along with ss badging on the front doors and liftgate, further differentiate the ss from the others. interiorinside, the chevy hhr provides, for the most part, comfortable and functional surroundings. Included are durable, easy-to-clean cargo surfaces, a front passenger seat that folds flat for more cargo space, a 60/40 split/fold-flat second-row seat, and a multi-position cargo package tray in the rear that provides cargo security. Speaking of headroom, there isn't a lot of it, in spite of the high roof. There's a handy flip-up compartment on top of the dash and a small glovebox. The rear provides one cupholder and small door pockets. The rear seat, split 60/40, folds flat very easily, as does the front passenger seat, and, since the 60-percent side of the rear seat is on the right, a long item like a ladder can be slipped in diagonally, a nice feature. The rear cargo floor flips up to reveal a five-inch-deep tray useful for storage. The rear liftgate is one piece and raises easily.  the hhr panel provides seating for two and a large, flat cargo floor with tie-down points to help hold things in place. The hhr panel cargo area features a standard auxiliary power outlet, as well as a 40-amp auxiliary power connector to provide service for a variety of specialty equipment needs. Two large storage compartments, with a lockable option, are located forward under the cargo floor (in place of the rear seats of the passenger models). The compartments offer security for things such as computer equipment, flashlights, service manuals and other valuables.  the hhr ss features a special interior with ss-embroidered sport seats with inserts, a specific gauge cluster, an a-pillar-mounted turbo boost gauge and a new shifter arrangement. The 2. 4-liter delivers 172 horsepower at 5800 rpm and 167 pound-feet of torque at 4500 rpm. The torque peak figure at such a high rpm suggests that the low-rpm pulling power might be weak, but quite to the contrary, it's not. Faced with a steep, slow hill, the hhr worked its way upward like a tractor, with no shifting-down or searching by the automatic transmission. Convertible joins sleek, new lineup. introductionthe volkswagen beetle was completely redesigned for 2012. For 2013, beetle convertible joins the lineup.  as with the coupe, the 2013 beetle convertible is longer, lower and wider than the new beetle, which is what we called the old one that was phased out after the 2010 model year. It feels like a capsule inside than it did before.  front legroom is plentiful, but the beetle coupe's rear seat has just 31. 4 inches of legroom, which is 1. 9 inches less than the subcompact toyota yaris, on a wheelbase that's 1. 1 inches longer. Still, two adult passengers will fit back there; they just sit rather upright.  the rear hatch area of the beetle coupe is spacious at 15. 4 cubic feet. With the rear seat folded, the coupe has nearly 30 cubic feet of cargo space, and the high-swinging hatchback enables giant things to fit inside, making the coupe handy for hauling. The beetle convertible has a trunk with only 7. 1 cubic feet of space.  the beetle seats and trim are neat but not fancy. The bucket seats are simple and comfortable, with excellent bolstering.  instrumentation is so clean it's memorable for its rarity. In the center of the big clear speedometer there's a multi-function digital display, accessed with a flick of the driver's right thumb, scrolling a small wheel on the steering wheel. It makes for safe driving.  the 2. 5-liter inline five-cylinder engine, with an iron block and dual overhead cams, carries on, delivering 170 horsepower. Torque is 177 pound-feet at 4250 rpm. Acceleration with the 2. 5-liter engine is adequate, and 75 mph on the freeway is smooth and mostly effortless.  a 5-speed manual gearbox is standard, with a 6-speed automatic transmission optional. The automatic did not wow us. The automatic has manual shift capability, but it's done with side-to-side movements using the lever. It's better than nothing, but it's not racy. The manual gearbox is satisfying and gives the car pep when accelerating. We recommend the manual.  a 2. 0-liter turbo model is also available that comes with a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automated manual that vw calls a dsg for direct shift gearbox. The turbo also has sportier suspension tuning. The 2. 0-liter turbocharged engine makes 200 horsepower and 207 pound-feet of torque at a low 1700 rpm, and it gets about the same fuel mileage as the 2. 5-liter engine although on more expensive premium gasoline. It's hot, with acceleration not far behind a mini cooper s.  also available is the tdi turbocharged direct-injection diesel engine, which delivers jaw-dropping torque and fuel mileage on the far side of 40 mpg. The 2. 0-liter turbodiesel delivers 236 pound-feet of torque. The tdi engine has been used successfully for some time in the golf and jetta models and is well-proven. It's clean and runs quietly.  coupe or convertible, the beetle chassis is rigid and the body solid, with subframes front and rear, supporting the suspensions. Vw did a lot of work to make the convertible impressively rigid.  the base coupe uses a torsion beam rear suspension, but the beetle turbo and all convertibles use a more sophisticated multi-link, for a higher threshold of cornering. The freeway ride in the base coupe doesn't suffer for the torsion beam. It's comfortable and consistent. Potholes don't hurt, but rough pavement can make the rear end of the coupe want to dance. The other models are more composed over rough pavement. lineupthe 2013 beetle model lineup includes 2. 5l, turbo and tdi models in coupe and convertible body styles with additional models defined by extra equipment. Special edition 1950s, '60s and '70s models are also available in the convertible lineup. The base engine is a 170-horsepower 2. 5-liter 5-cylinder. Turbos get a 200-horsepower 2. 0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder. The rear gate is massive. Vw had to make no compromises to the car's shape for the utility of cargo loading. When the hatch is closed, it flows invisibly into the car's roundness.  the convertible, on the other hand, has a trunk that sits below the hold for the convertible soft top. The top opens in just 9. 5 seconds and closing in 11 at speeds up to 31 mph. It's like the old bug, in a welcome way.  volkswagen does gauges well, and the beetle's are super clean. 2012 toyota yaris review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Redesigned, with more cargo space, better cornering. introductionthe toyota yaris has been completely redesigned for 2012. The front seats are as sporty and comfortable as any we've found in that class, and feature toyota's advanced whiplash injury-lessening (wil) design, supporting the upper body from head to lower back. Like all new cars nowadays, the new body uses an impact-absorbing structure with high-strength steel to better distribute collision forces.  the wheelbase is 98. 8 inches, a fraction longer than the ford fiesta, honda civic and mazda 2, but a fraction shorter than the chevy sonic; however its length is inches less than those cars. The yaris is called a five-seater, but don't count on it.  the 2012 toyota yaris comes as a 3-door or 5-door liftback. A sedan version is not available. After decades, it seems the eminently practical hatchback/liftback body style is starting to prevail over the smoother looking but less functional compact sedan.  yaris comes in three trims: l, le, and se (5-door only). Especially the se, which has wider tires, alloy wheels, spoilers and diffusers, and body-colored touches.  its new aggressive stance comes from a bold nose and head-on view, with wide headlamps having integrated turn signals. The side profile shows a steep beltline and curving shoulders that flow to the rear.  the yaris now comes in eight colors, including super white, classic silver metallic, magnetic gray metallic, black sand pearl, absolutely red, lagoon blue mica, wave line pearl and blazing blue pearl. The car's lines are now cool enough that in black or gray metallic, it actually looks powerful, in a subcompact sort of way. interiorwe love the sport seats in the yaris se. The new high-quality fabric is rugged and the fit is all-around excellent. The yaris chassis and ride feel solid, and we think the seats have a lot to do with this. But it would feel solid anyhow.  there's decent room in the rear for a subcompact, with 33. 3 inches of legroom. The rear bench seat in the l model folds flat with one knob, while the le and se models have a 60/40 split folding rear seat. The dashboard is pleasing, and toyota has moved the speedometer to in front of the driver where it belongs; the previous yaris located the speedo in the center of the dashboard, so the structure could be used in right-hand-drive cars, to reduce cost.  there's a nice, small tachometer to the left of the speedo, which has good clear numbers with a digital window showing time, temp, odo, twin trip meters, clock, fuel mileage, and average speed. The instrument lighting glows red and cool at night. The shift knob and thick steering wheel grip feel good in the dark. It's a new three-spoke, with a flat bottom to stay out of the way of a driver's knees when climbing in and out.  cabin conveniences are especially important in a subcompact, and the yaris has good ones. Climate control knobs are as simple and easy as they come. It's got a roomy glovebox, six cup and bottle holders, door pockets, and cubbies near the shift lever, although no center console between the seats, where the emergency brake lever is located. There's good legroom in front, 40. 6 inches.  but we wonder what happened to toyota's thinking, with the radio/sound system. Music mode or talk mode appears, that's all it does. Spin and nothing happens. We found it frustrating. What's more, the reception was lousy. Twenty miles outside the city limits, and we couldn't get the biggest fm station in portland.  back to the upside. Great, safe, high beams with the standard halogen headlamps. A terrific one-arm windshield wiper that sprays fluid directly onto the path of the blade.  finally, one of the most important things: the yaris is quiet inside. The engine isn't buzzy, and there's tons of new sound insulation. The doors close with a healthy thunk. driving impressionwe got a chance to drive the yaris in the snow, and it performed well. Better traction than we expected up a steep slippery street, and down that same street, the anti-lock brakes delivered security.  actually, secure might be the best single word to describe the overall feeling. The toyota yaris feels way solid. It's not big on the outside, but its roominess on the inside contributes to the solid feeling. It's not as quick and sporty feeling as the lightweight mazda2 or the ford fiesta, and.
